13.51 Goodbye for now. And Thanks for tuning in. 13.49 You can ask questions online though; don’t forget. 13.49 We are officially over. 13.48 We are officially the only people still sitting down. 13.48 No official announcement yet, but that is the word on the street. 13.47 And, I think thats it. No other candidates seem to have come. 13.44 No smoke please, there are children present. 13.44 Chris would like to broadcast another message through this article. 13.40 Don’t gamble kids. 13.40 If you’re bored waiting for more action, then have a read of this positively smashing article by Chris Clarke. 13.35 Intermission: Chris is telling us about his dog 13.34 Kanani: I want to create more diversity, a better structure by bringing inter mural into SUSU so students can have a direct say in what happens with it. More facilities, to stop issues of overcrowding and more influence participation from AU clubs so inter-mural participation’s get more guidance and AU clubs get more money. 13.32 Proudley: Make sports much more accesible for people of all abilities; a good way to make friends and have fun. 13.32 Why should I vote for you? 13.32 Both has similar answers; to encourage a disability sports day – like the one for International Students that occurred last Sunday. Both though by making this experience as accesible, then more would get involved. 13.31 How should we encourage those with disabilities to get involved in sport? 13.30 Jack: I believe the responsibility lies with each club to get players. It’s important to have a good structure that works. 13.29 Proudley: it depends on AU clubs. I think facilities and time are hard for smaller clubs to run a competitive squad. I also think there needs to be time for social sport – aware from the competitive side, just for those that want to get involved. 13.28 Question: How can we encourage more participation in sport? 13.28 Shane just yawned; sums up the mood here. 13.27 Just to maintain impartiality: other Sabbatical candidates are here and I’m sure they eat lunch too. 13.27 And a banana has arisen out of her bag. 13.26 Some cheese twists have come out. Poured into the box as well. 13.26 Chris: “it’s brilliant” 13.25 Claire Gilbert is here; her lunch is a big box full of chocolate biscuits, sausage rolls…with mushrooms and humus as well. Interesting choice Claire. 13.24 There is an Palestine poster-board behind and an Israeli stool in the SUSU – that seems to be the problem behind the noise. Bit of a debate going on. 13.23 We would love to keep you informed of what their answers are, but the sound is being drowned out by people in the SUSU building 13.21 *Should 13.21 Question: do you think all students be involved in Sport at Uni? 13.20 Both have focus on inter-mural on their husting one minute speech. Clearly a contentious topic this year. 13.19 The official Sports Participation Officer uniform? 13.19 Both are donning beanie hats. 13.19 Sports Participation Officer now: Jack Kanani & Adam Proudley 13.18 Spoke about how he would improve international students integration with SUSU, help them get more involved. 13.17 One international Student’s Officer – Vlad Nokivov – turned up. 13.17 No Student Communities Officers either. No JCRs Officer, No National Oceanography Centre Officer, No Postgraduate (Research) Students Officer, Southampton General Hospital Officer. 13.14 We’re on other welfare candidates; but no Ethical & Environment Officers have come nor Equality & Diversity Officer. 13.13 Laura said it was there to help students, aid them with the experience. She hopes Nightline can expand to be more known, perhaps without the stigma of many believe it. 13.11 Two questions: Why does Nightline Exist? Where do you see Nightline in one year considering this is the first time for having a student leader? 13.10 People being quite rude, being loud when walking past, especially considering not many people in here. 13.10 Mason said she was passionate about the role and was keen to make sure all students know about it and use it. 13.09 Laura Mason is up for Nightline Officer: just her and RON. 13.08 But no-one is here. 13.08 So we’re back on. 13.05 Shane is playing blind football in the corner, is this our cue to leave? 13.05 Donuts have eased the pain of nothing happening 13.02 We just got delivered a flyer about a comedy show called Clusterf**k. Not sure if its any good; Chris says he might go though. 13.01 A couple of Sabbs hanging around; but more, importantly Chris Clarke – travel editor of the Wessex Scene – is here. 13.00 It’s like BNOC-central in here. 13.00 Last seen by the Squash courts. Apparently, she likes a game or two. 12.59 In a controversial move, SUSU cat has not turned up to proceedings, some serious questions will be asked of her dedication to the university. 12.59 Oh excitement: a tour group has come in. 12.58 A few Where’s Wally look-a-likies. 12.58 There is actually no one here. 12.56 We apologise for an typos by the way. 12.55 While we have a break, here is a little plug for a great article about the Sabbatical Candidates and whose winning the social media war. 12.54 I fancy Elton John: Candle in the wind 12.54 Maybe Shane will sing for us.. 12.53 Everyone is leaving, has it ended? 12.53 BREAKING NEWS: Andy says he used to be a stripper, Brown Sugar was his stripper name. not much is going on here.. 12.51 Jamie Barker is pleased with his performance 12.47 He has run away with the cakes 12.47 Matt has yet to offer a cake to Zander or I, very disappointing. 12.45 He hasn’t turned up either though to be fair. 12.45 I imagine that’s because they are unopposed. Except RON. 12.45 We are getting hungry here, Andy, can you get us some lunch? 12.44 No one from PA or Union Films have attended. That’s Laura Ellis & Nick Tinsley respectively. 12.44 5 minute break 12.43 Sam says he isn’t sure why they didn’t go to the Edge in the first place 12.43 Performing arts reviews have been brought up… 12.43 20 views on this blog so far. I’m not convinced people care about these Student Leader positions. 12.42 Sam: I think there needs to be better collaboration between the heads and hope that diffuses down. I would also want more socials and friendly-interaction too. 12.42 Shane is refusing to allow the question of collaboration with the Edge, as its boring… 12.41 How will you collaborate with SUSU TV? 12.40 Improvements to the News section, better links with the community, Solent and other media departments 12.39 Wessex Scene, Sam Everard is up 12.39 change* 12.39 Matt also said he wanted to can the name of The Edge. I wonder what to. 12.39 New band section, review their gigs and promote them. Says Matt 12.39 Oh, Shane’s phone went off there. Not very professional from the host. 12.38 Matthew Timmiss is here. Megan Downing & Howell Davies are not. 12.38 awkward 12.37 Three candidates for this position: only one has turned up. 12.37 Next up is The Edge 12.37 Jamie: We should go on FM this year. Surge should invest in it first, but I think we should. On the issue between listeners or DJs, I think DJs are the priority. It is the student soundtrack, so participate in it, be creative, give people confidence a chance to be involved. It won’t be world-class, but thats not the point. 12.35 Claire: It is important to improve the studio, get people excited. Ultimately it is about people listening to Surge. We are providing a service 12.35 They seem bemused by the spectacle. 12.35 A tour group has come into the building. 12.35 Is Surge about involvement or Output? Should Surge be on FM? 12.34 Jamie: Ben has done really well (light applause) Jamie is more of an inspirational figure, he can inspire DJ’s. Big words 12.34 Claire: I’m not afraid to criticise people if I don’t feel they are doing things quite right. I want the content to be good; but I’m also a sociable person who anyone could come to with a problem. I also want meetings – both with members and the committee – to be more fun. 12.32 Controversial one. 12.32 Why are you more improved than the previous station manager? 12.32 Claire: Lots of people who want to get involved, it is important to focus on training. Its not exclusive, get people involved 12.31 Jamie: I don’t feel the two are mutually-exclusive. I feel we can get better production, get more people involved as well as improve the content and production values of it. 12.30 Focus on getting people involved or on production? 12.30 Claire: I agree with Jamie, I want to perfect our content before moving forward on that. An hour or two in the Staggs every day would be good. Adjusting the volume also 12.29 Jamie: I want to make Surge awesome first. It would ideal if it was played all around SUSU, but we shouldn’t expect it just because we can. We should make people want to listen to Surge, then hopefully people will want to hear it around SUSU. 12.29 Should Surge be played through union buildings at all times? 12.28 They are inspirational though 12.27 We would write them, but we value our fingers too much 12.27 By that, we mean doing his one minute speech 12.27 Barker’s tirading 12.27 This is between Jamie Barker & Claire Joines 12.26 Next up: another media department of Surge Radio 12.26 Catherine is apparently better than tim as she has already motivated a team, made them feel like they’re part of something. She is head of news whilst Tim hasn’t been. She is involved with societies. 12.26 Tim: I want to show that people can make what they want, push forward content, show of their creativity. My big focus is to work with societies and try and get better and more content that way. 12.24 Why should we vote for you? 12.24 Tim: I would quite like to to make a android hostage drama, but I would think the best way to use the budget would be to get the equipment needed to improve our output 12.23 Catherine would want to focus on training, learning from past generations. She is fond of Moggy 12.23 Catherine Darcy & Tim Brooks are the candidates going for this position 12.22 Tim said he believed that all SUSUtv content should have the branding as it is there efforts put in 12.22 What is your dream project? 12.22 Catherine believes SUSU TV content should be branded, but other media outlets should be credited 12.21 First question: Should all SUSUtv content have a SUSUtv branding? 12.20 SUSU TV Station manager candidates up next 12.20 Alice: One’s which encourage people to do more that they haven’t done before 12.20 Charlotte: Big Brother – I know other universities do it 12.19 Ross: Kilimanjaro 12.19 Second question: what would be your biggest/best fundraising you have heard of? 12.18 Charlotte & Ross both said they wanted to agree with specific RAG raids 12.17 Ross: small simple ideas like selling custard creams 12.16 First Question: What are you going to do to raise more money for the three Rag charities? 12.16 First up is RAG officer; all three candidates are allowed to speak for a mintue. 12.15 Or a new dance. 12.14 So we’re not sure what hustings really means, but we think its just a fancy name for questions. 12.14 Hello. We’re live from the SUSU building to blog the student leader hustings.

Hey Guys,
Cheers for coming down, just wanted to clear up a post though.
“12.39Oh, Shane’s phone went off there. Not very professional from the host.”
The alarm went off on my phone that indicated one min of speaking went off, it was not my phone going off in an unprofessional manner.
Hope you enjoyed the hustings!
Shane
