Students are often tempted to rely on pints of energy drink and all-night cramming sessions to get through it. Lifestyle has come to the rescue with some more effective ways of boosting your memory and coping with the stress...
* You are what you eat: What you eat can have an important impact on your performance in an exam. For example, iron rich foods (such as red meat, green vegetables and eggs) are proven to increase concentration, making them perfect revision food. Another recommended food is fish, as it contains Omega 3 which helps fight anxiety and boost brainpower. Also, be sure to have breakfast before an exam, even if you’re feeling sick with nerves. Studies have shown that students who skip this vital meal achieve lower marks.
* Proper planning: Another way to cope
with exam stress is to make sure you plan properly. Organise a revision timetable for
yourself, and always leave enough time to read through your work at least twice. Also, find out important information beforehand. For example, don’t leave it until the last minute to find out where your exam is taking place!
* Take a break: Remember, one of the keys to coping with exam stress is giving yourself regular revision breaks. You could try exercising, such as going for a jog in the fresh air or doing some stretches. Alternatively, listen to your favourite music turned up extra loud to relieve some stress.
* Think positive: Don’t forget: just because you feel like you’ve failed doesn’t mean you have done. And no matter what happens, there’s always a second chance with resits.
Some final advice comes from English student Megan: "I find that organising a study group with people from my subject really helps. Getting other students to test you makes you realise what you don’t know and need to work on."
Good luck everyone!
