Lifestyle has some ideas for how you can make the most of summer in (and around) Southampton.
GO TO A BALL:
Put on your best dress or tux, and get to one of the many balls the University have to offer! For freshers, the Halls Ball is a must, and it’s a great way to end your first year in style. Alternatively, check out what your subjects are planning, as courses usually throw their own balls or parties. And for those in their final year, the Grad Ball is a must! It’s set in a country mansion, complete with live music and a fairground, it will be a night to remember.
THROW YOUR OWN PARTY:
If a ball’s out of your budget, then throw your own summer party instead! Why not set up a BBQ in the garden and mix some cocktails. Also, you could decorate your house in a summery way, and have a fancy dress theme for your guests, such as Baywatch, or Hawaiian. Add an ice bucket full of nice cold beer, and you’re sorted!
SEE SOME LIVE MUSIC:
Another great way to celebrate the end of exams and the start of the summer is to go and see some live music. The Isle of Wight festival takes place in the middle of June, and it’s the ideal place to chill out outdoors, and catch some of the best live acts around, like The Prodigy, Stereophonics, and Razorlight. If you prefer something less pricy and a bit closer to home, then the University’s Live Music Society has plenty of events lined up as well.
GO ON A DAY TRIP:
If you want a change of scene there’s plenty to do around Southampton that’s perfect for long summer days. Bournemouth is just a short train ride away, and they have one of the best beaches in Britain, for those of you who fancy doing some sunbathing or watersports. Finally, the more cultured among you might like a trip to Winchester. Head to the Jazz Picnic there on June 26th, visit some museums, and then enjoy some real ale in one of many traditional pub gardens there
So what are you wating for? Whatever you decide to do, make this a summer to remember!
