Victoria Beckham has managed to prove to the fashion industry that she has metamorphosised from late-nineties pop-star to respected designer.

Showcased for the first time at New York Fashion Week in September, along with her newly cropped hair-do,

Although her DVB denim line has proven to be a failure having been dropped by numerous stores as of late, she has excelled herself by launching a limited collection of ‘posh frocks’ designed with the front row Bryant Park female in mind. The collection consists of 10 dresses made from lightweight wool, silk and organza in a neutral palette of muted colours: ivory, oyster, black, navy and cobalt blue. It exudes a certain maturity and eloquence, a ‘put-togetherness’ that is often seen on Beckham herself, and echoes the Roland Mouret outfits she is frequently photographed in. She is the collection’s ideal buyer; this collection is not merely another WAG fantasy, Beckham emerges as a learned designer whose love of editorial fashion is evident in the construction of her dresses. They are modest in the extreme; no cleavage, a demure colour palette, often covering the knees, and all with short cap or three-quarter sleeves. Ranging from day-dresses to beautifully embroidered evening gowns, Beckham has chosen to exhibit a collection that would cater for all sorts of occasions. My particular favourite is a deep blue dress similar to Mouret’s Galaxy, which appeared to elongate the model but likewise emphasise her curvy features. Moreover, the quality of the items have been constructed around the practicalities of being a woman (Beckham marvelled at the sensibility behind two-way zips that allow the wearer to choose how they get into their garment), which has lead her to incorporate features such as modern corsetry and grosgrain details. Also, many of the dresses have belts that help to accessorize whilst simultaneously giving the wearer a cinched waist and a subtle, hour-glass silhouette. She says that posture and sensibleness were leading factors when designing the shape of her dresses: "Structure is an important word to use when discussing my collection. The corsets and belts that have been incorporated into my dresses have been made in such a way that they are comfortable and supportive. My clothes are designed for women from a woman’s perspective."

Unfortunately to us masses, Victoria Beckham’s exclusive line is priced between £500 to a hefty £3,000 for one of the signature evening gowns, and is marketed as an investment buy. Beckham still has a lot to learn to rank amongst the respected designer elite but it is fair to say should she continue to showcase similar styles to those exhibited last September, her continued success will be imminent.
