Chip-pan fires may not seem like a modern day cause of fire but statistically fires caused by cooking are one of the biggest fire threats.

- If you were to put a small amount of water on burning oil it would turn into a deathly fireball.

- Fires caused by cigarettes are the most common fires reported to the fire station.

- Make sure you have fitted and working smoke alarms around your accommodation and remember that you are more than twice as likely to die in a fire if you do not have a working smoke alarm.

- 55% of 18-24 year olds deaths in fires occur through misuse of cooking appliances and careless handling of hot substances.
