Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, has appointed a new head of school.
Professor Bashir Makhoul, previously Professor of Art and Design at the University of Luton, took up his post at the end of February.
Since 2002, Professor Makhoul was Head of the School of Media Art and Design and Director of the Research Institute for Media, Art and Design at the University of Luton. He has also held the post of Head of Research degrees and course leader for the MA in Art and Design at Sheffield Hallam University, and was a lecturer and post-doctoral research fellow at Liverpool John Moores University.
The Winchester School of Art merged with the University of Southampton in 1996. It was founded in 1860 and has an international reputation for research and teaching in art, art history and design, and has links with many other institutions in Europe.
SUSU Vice President Anna Jeffries said that she was looking forward to working with Professor Makhoul following the recent upheavals at WSA. She commented that her meetings so far with the Professor were promising and that the future looks brighter for Winchester students.
