Christmas officially begins on Highfield Campus at 6pm this evening, when the University’s Christmas lights will be switched on.
This evening, the red brick area of Highfield Campus will be turned into a Winter Wonderland with a Ferris Wheel, Christmas market and musical entertainment. As guests enter the Winter Wonderland, they will be given a token which can be exchanged for a minced pie and a glass of mulled wine, mulled cider or soft drink from either the Bridge Bar or the Stags Head.
The Christmas market will be selling speciality breads, homemade jams, muffins and cakes as well as a number of potential gifts. As well as this, there will be over 300 prizes to be won in the free tombola.
Since the event is not ticketed, it has been suggested that guests arrive at 5:15pm so that they have plenty of time to claim their free minced pie and festive beverage before the Vice-Chancellor, Don Nutbeam gives his end of year speech.
So, here are the highlights you can expect this evening:
5:15pm: mince pies, mulled wine and a chance to explore the Winter Wonderland
5:45pm: the Vice-Chancellor end-of-year speech
6pm: lights switched on by Southampton Olympian Pavlos Kontides and torchbearers Mostafa Soleimani and Kangjing He
6:30pm onwards: more time to enjoy the Winter Wonderland after which you can retire to the Bridge Bar or the Stags Head.
