Southampton’s very own artificial intelligence professor, Nigel Shadbolt, has been awarded knighthood as part of the Queens Birthday Honours List for his services in science and engineering. The head of the universities Web and Internet Science Group is one of over a thousand visionaries to be honoured this year.
”I’m surprised and delighted to be recognised with this very special honour.”
Shadbolt joins the list along with other tech successes including Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Dame Wendy Hall.
The newly knighted Professor has also had great success outside of the academic field, being Chairman and co-founder of the Open Data Institute (ODI) and the director of the Web Science Trust and Web Foundation.
