A 32-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in a park off of Northam Road in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The victim told Hampshire police that she had been approached by a stranger as she waited by a bus stop, at which point he dragged her into the park and assaulted her. She managed to ask a passer-by for help around 3am, who then dialled 999. The victim was moved to Southampton General Hospital after being initially assessed by paramedics.

Officers sealed off the park while they made enquiries, and tape remained around the park yesterday so that forensics teams could examine the area where the incident allegedly took place.

Hampshire police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or has any information on the incident to contact them on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 500 111.
