Southampton’s University Challenge team tonight lost to Somerville College, Oxford in their second quarter-final match. However, despite this defeat, Southampton still have a place in the contest.

Somerville College, Oxford won tonight’s show with 215 points against Southampton’s 95. Southampton are left with one more chance to reach the semi-finals.

Southampton previously stormed through the first stage of the popular quiz show’s quarter-finals after finishing with a victorious 290 points against Queen’s University Belfast’s 90 points.

The Southampton team gained the highest score of the current series when they achieved an incredible 335 versus Bangor University’s 60 points.

The Southampton team comprises of team captain Bob De Caux alongside David Bishop, Richard Evans and Matt Loxham, as well as returning mascot SUSU the Cat.

This series is one of Southampton’s most successful appearances on the show in recent years. Southampton’s last appearance was in 2010, where the team lost in round one with 115 points to Newnham College, Cambridge.
