Police have cordoned off a large section of Manor Farm Road next to Riverside Park after discovering a suspicious device at a house in the area.

Specialists and police are on the scene, and a bomb disposal unit is parked outside a house in Dimond Road. Hampshire Police confirmed that they were called to the home at 9:40am this morning after a resident discovered the device.

Neighbouring properties within the 100m cordon set up by police have been evacuated, and Hampshire Fire and Rescue crews are on standby.

UPDATE: A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the suspicious device in Bitterne this morning.

The device was safely removed at 3:20pm by disposal experts. A remote-controlled robot, navigated by Navy personnel, was also present.

The cordon will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

    Bomb threat?

If there was a device, surely it stops being a threat, and starts being a bomb?
