In order to thank Student Community Action (SCA) for all their hard work this year, the Vice Chancellor has invited a range of people up to his Chilworth Residence for a barbeque.
About 60 people are attending including SCA volunteers, Sabbaticals (present and future), and various other people in the Union and University associated with volunteering. The Vice Chancellor's wife, Sylvia is the SCA patron and will also be present.
The SCA recently had an awards evening which was a chance to celebrate the work of student volunteers in our local community and to present certificates of achievement to them as a way of saying thank you.
The SCA works within the local community and not only gives students valuable experience but also cements good relationships between the University and Southampton City. The SCA is directed by students with ongoing support provided by staff.
How do I get involved? Visit the SCA department which is upstairs in the Students' Union West Building. At the top of stairs turn left and they are on the right hand side.
Have a chat to Ruth French (SCA Co-ordinator) or Hannah Steel (Educational Projects Co-ordinator) to find out what's available, what interests you have and how much time you will have to spare. It doesn't matter if it is one hour a week, or if you only want to be involved in one off projects, there is something for everyone.
