Spankolinists keep winning on the bounce

3rd May 2007

This must be the most successful year the ever-increasing Southampton University Trampoline Club has ever had. After the success of gaining four places in the BUSA final the club were very happy. However, when they went to Ireland empty handed and returned with a big old shield they were ‘bouncing’ with joy.

Over one weekend of hard bouncing they won two first place trophies and three third place medals. Special mention goes to Hannah Evans who performed a perfect routine, gaining an impressive clear two point lead over any other competitor. For the sexy Welsh lass Ireland began to close a year filled with successive wins. Katie Whitlock meanwhile coached tirelessly from the sides, competed and came third in the elite category, and still found time to judge on the mens advanced panel and the synchronised category too. Finally, Tasha Riddell, a constant sight in the team and committee got a thoroughly deserved medal. All three of these girls, who like to call themselves team ginger, made the Southampton Spankolinists very proud!

At the end of the weekend, when the Irish Trampoline Open committee added up the scores of each teams’ top six competitors, only one team could come out on top - Southampton. Now the Irish trampoline champions, the beautiful engraved shield will be displayed in The Stag’s Head while you are supping on a cool beverage.

Southampton are hosting the next competition on May 6, so come along and watch! The club are hoping it will be the perfect way to finish the perfect year.
