PS3 Worldwide Launch

18th May 2006

Following the example of the (near) simultaneous global launch of the Xbox 360, Sony are to provide those in Asia, Europe, North America and Australia the opportunity to buy the next PlayStation console in early November, this year.

The console will also be backwards compatible with PS2 and PSone games, even allowing the opportunity for these older titles to be displayed in a higher definition resolution. The PS3’s games will make use of the Blu-ray disc format, and there will also be an online service provided by Sony for the new console.

It is planned that one million PS3’s will be available across the above locations when it launches in November, with six million units finding their way to shelves by March 2007.

No prices have yet been confirmed, but it is expected that more will be revealed round about the time of E3 in May.
