17th March 2010  The Edge

Interview with The Wallbirds

7th December 2007
Katrina Sale

How did the band start?
At the beginning

Very clever...
Sorry. We started about 11 months ago, and everything’s escalated very quickly.

How did the Band know each other before?
I went to school with Chris, the drummer, and he was in a band with Luke, the bassist. I don’t want to say I poached them, but I was doing solo acoustic stuff before and needed a band, and they weren’t very happy in the band before so we just got together and started jamming.

What was the inspiration for name of the band?
After about a month of coming up with some shit names, I was watching the Discovery Channel and saw this bird that eats bees, and it just sounded ike a good name for the band.

What are the main influences for your music?
Our stuff is kinda folk rock, going back from Dylan to Hank Willaim but brought into modern day, if im allowed to say that.

What’s been the highlight for the band so far?
Oh, this tour has just been amazing, every night there are something amazing happens and we’re all 100% brothers. We spent a week touring and sleeping in a clapped out van a while back so the tour bus is luxury.

What’s been the best gig?
We played a gig with the Wombats in Liverpool a while back, and then when we went back with the pigeons some of the same guys had come to see us again. The audience singing your songs back at you gives really good vibes.

Are the songs written from own experience?
Yeah, all the songs are true tales and mean something personally but everyone can derive what they want from them.

Any solid future plans?
The single’s out on the third of December called the Avenue, just see how that does, and then record an album and see how it goes.

Debut single The Avenue out in the shops 3rd December.
