If you thought Madonna was an inappropriate foster parent, wait until you read this.

Rumours are abounding that Amy Winehouse is attempting to jump aboard the rapidly departing adopt-a-foreign-child bandwagon. Following the news that former squeeze Blake Fielder-Civil got a woman he met in rehab pregnant (it would appear that she didn’t say ’no no no’ – boom boom), a furious Winehouse has reportedly announced her intention to adopt a St Lucian child whilst holidaying on the island. Friends are apparently attempting to dissuade the one time singer from getting her filthy claws into an unsuspecting infant.

Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan is facing heavy criticism after suggesting that Chinese people ‘need to be controlled’. Following the all too familiar Hollywood route of actors weighing in on issues they know absolutely nothing about, the martial arts enthusiast questioned the notion of a free society at a business forum in southern China, stating "I’m not sure if it’s good to have freedom or not. I’m gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled." He went on to describe free societies in Hong Kong and Taiwan as ‘chaotic’. Unsurprisingly, Chan’s comments have whipped up a bit of a storm amongst pro-democracy groups. ‘Chinese people aren’t pets. Chinese society needs a democratic system to protect human rights and rule of law’ said pro-democracy legislator Leung Kwok-hung in response to Chan’s comments, not wholly unreasonably.

A live DVD of Nirvana’s legendary performance at the 1992 Reading Festival is set to be released, following the emergence of a bootlegged version. Following the usual pattern of major labels attempting in vain to rival the extensive world of piracy, Universal announced that the imaginatively titled ‘Live at Reading’ would be released following the revelation that an entirely unofficial version of the show, entitled ‘Life Takes No Prisoners’, would be available from May 4th. Whilst the officially sanctioned version will feature ambiguously titled ‘bonus feature’ and will be gloriously re-mastered in 5:1 Surround Sound (whatever that is), it still smacks of desperation from a major label attempting to catch up with but still panting wheezily behind a digitalised age in which ideas words like ‘copyright’ and ‘official’ really make any difference to the habits of music consumers. Personally, I suspect the work of the ever cash hungry Courtney Love is behind the whole thing, but, then again, I am incredibly cynical.
