Varsity 2011 LIVE BLOG: Southampton Vs. Portsmouth


The last two years Southampton University have hosted Varsity and comfortably walked off with the spoils of the day against infamous rivals Portsmouth. However, how will the increasingly closer competition and points re-structure system this year affect today’s Varsity 2011 results?

58 different SUSU sport clubs will take part in today’s annual Varsity competition against the University of Portsmouth – each University competing for the prestigious winning title against its rival neighbouring city.

The event kicks off from 11am with different sporting games getting underway at Wide Lane Sports Ground in Eastleigh, the University boat yard on the river Itchen, and Highfield Campus’ Jubilee Sports Centre. The event will culminate with the 1sts XI football match at 4.30pm.

The annual event is the biggest in the South, and the third biggest in the UK. All venues are open to the public and are free of charge. There will be free parking at all venues, and on-site food and entertainment at Wide Lane.
