In the Education Zone, we have nine roles:

  1. VP Education
  2. Business and Law Officer
  3. Engineering and Environment Officer
  4. Health Sciences Officer
  5. Humanities Officer
  6. Medicine Officer
  7. Natural and Environmental Sciences Officer
  8. Physical and Applied Sciences Officer
  9. Social and Human Sciences Officer

1. VP Education

The VP Education leads and supports the academic representation structure, which contains Faculty Officers, Academic Presidents and Course Reps. They also defend the academic educational rights of students and support their issues at a University and National level, acting as the lead student representative.

Part of the job includes increasing the student voice through the student representative system, which involves presiding over more than 600 volunteer reps, and promoting academic awareness to students.

How has this position changed, if at all?

The position of VP Education was formerly called VP Academic Affairs, but aside from that the duties of the role haven’t really changed.

Sasha Watson, in his second year in the role.

2. Business and Law Officer

The Business and Law Officer represents students who do subjects within their faculty, and liaises with the VP Education on any academic issues the faculty may have.

3. Engineering and Environment Officer

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but Alex Bees has held the role of Social and Human Sciences Officer in 2012/13… It’s no newer than any of the other Faculty Officer roles.

    Also, what about the support of student groups that the new Education Zone will have to provide? I know this is still sort of pending, but some form of support for groups will form an important part of the Zone’s work.
