It’s definitely cold enough now to justify a good serving of mulled wine!
Here’s an easy recipe from our beloved Delia, the patron saint of good food, for all your house Christmas Dinners these next few weeks.
- 2 bottles of medium to full-bodied red wine
- 2 oranges, sliced
- 2 lemons, sliced
- 6 level tablespoons of granulated sugar or honey
- 2 inch cinnamon stick
- 2 level teaspoons of finely grated fresh root ginger or ground ginger
- Optional: 2 tablespoons of fruit liqueur (e.g. Cointreau, Grand Marnier or Cherry Brandy)
Heat everything in a large saucepan with 1.5l (2.5 pints) of water up to simmering point, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Keep it at barely simmering for 20 minutes, but be careful not to boil else the alcohol will evapourate. Serve warm with plenty of mince pies and festive cheer.
