Craig David opened a new sporting facility in Mansell Park, Millbrook today alongside some of Southampton’s other fine celebrities. Southampton FC goalkeeper Kelvin Davis, Olympic diver Pete Waterfield and athlete Mo Farah all joined the singing sensation to celebrate the all-weather fitness park that is part of Southampton City’s commitment to sport ahead of the London 2012 olympics.
The gym includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, cross-trainers and weights suitable for all ages. There are also basketball and tennis courts, a climbing wall and an area for dance, gymnastics and aerobics.
The all-weather gym includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, cross-trainers and equipment for all ages to pump some iron. As well as demonstrating the Council’s commitment to exercise and health, the gym is also expected to provide a safe place for young people to participate in activites that they otherwise may not have the opportunity to do. The project has CCTV and lighting to maintain a safe environment, and Southampton City Council along with the Department for Children, Schools and Family have each contributed £75,000 towards the project.
