Thousands of people are expected to turn out on Sunday 21st March to get active and have fun whilst raising money for charity. Southampton is one of 16 cities hosting Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile this year and it’s set to be a great day for all.
Meeting at Hogland’s Park, the sponsored run will take place between 11 and 2 and is suitable for all ages and abilities with a choice of 1,3 or 6 mile runs. The milers will be set off in three waves, with the route passing through 3 of the cities parks, looping around the Bargate Monument. As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief is encouraging people to get active and raise cash to change the lives of vulnerable people living throughout the UK and the world’s poorest countries.
Alongside the Flagship Mile there are lots of other exciting activities planned such as local bands, sports stars and dancers creating a great atmosphere whilst keeping everyone entertained throughout the day. At midday there is the chance to become part of a ‘Hula Hoops Hoop-a-thon’ record attempt which aims to gather as many people together as possible to simultaneously Hula Hoop their way into the record books.
