Reseachers at Lancaster University have developed an application that is believed to tell paedophiles from children in online chatrooms.
If accurate, the app could put parents across the country at ease, as concerns surrounding the dangers of Internet chatrooms prevail.
‘ChildDefence’ analyses language, in order to determine whether the language is that of a child, or a paedophile pretending to be a child in order to lure in victims.
Worryingly, the app is considered able to detect ‘quirks’ in language. If finalised, it will be used on social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as in SMS text messages.
Although the app has passed recent tests, child protection experts are worried about whether it is entirely safe, and it has yet to have passed enough testing to be mass produced.
