Redevelopment began last week on the lobby of building 42, the reception area of the SUSU building.
Plans include turning the internet cafe area into several study “pods”, which will be bookable to small groups of students and societies. The reception area will be moved and a video wall of six screens will be built to show all things SUSU-related, in the work which is due to be completed in time for the open day on September 2nd.
A cash machine will also be installed.
SUSU President Sam Ling said ” It is an exciting project to inherit as an incoming president, and is set to rejuvenate the feel of the whole building by providing a fresh new look to the first part of the building that you see. The renovation also coincides with the launch of the rebrand, and together they will provide something for both new and returning students to get excited about.”
“An important piece of feedback that has helped us shape this development is that students really wanted somewhere to hang out, that provided a “living room” feel in the centre of campus.”
A second stage of redevelopment – the moving of all front-facing union offices, and creation of a new student clubs and socieities room – is also underway.
