University hosts unique plastic surgery course

The University of Southampton’s School of Medicine is to host a plastic surgery master-class for leading surgeons from around the globe over the next three days.

Created by face and neck surgeon, Sanjay Sharma of Southampton General Hospital, Face Course 2011 offers visiting clinicians an in-depth look at the latest techniques in non-cosmetic surgery.

The course will help consultants learn the very latest techniques from the very best in the field.

Mr Sharma

In August of this year, Southampton’s team of surgeons carried out reconstructive surgery on Patrick Flinders – the victim of the highly publicised polar bear attack – in order to mend his fractured skull.

It is hoped that the event will publicise the high standard of reconstructive work going on in Southampton and confirm Southampton’s place as one of the leading centres for this type of surgery; the course directors hope to promote public confidence in those working at Southampton General Hospital.
