The low numbers allowed each comedian to chat to various members of the audience and it was quickly established by Tiernan Douieb, the evening’s MC, what course everyone was taking, their home towns and there was even a chance to get a quick rummage through one of the survival packs won at the pyjama party.
First onto the stage was Geordie man Luke Benson, who, after the initial accent deciphering, pleased the crowd with many almost blunt, yet amusing gags. Following him was the musical talents of Emerald Paston. She performed for less time but everyone enjoyed every minute of songs about Inception and posh people rapping, and falling in love with your mugger. The headliner for the evening was Carl Donnelly, who was said to have been on Russell Howard’s Big News and Mock the Week. He did not disappoint and everyone loved hearing about his toilet photos and subway dance moves; which will no doubt be coming soon to a Barbone or Porthouse near you.
Tiernan Douieb mentioned the possibility of more comedy nights for those that attended last night and want more, or for those who would like another chance to see more great live acts, so contact the JCR or keep a look out for more information about upcoming comedy nights if you’re interested.
