University Midwifery training wins award

The University of Southampton’s Midwifery course had been recognised for its high standards of training.

The UNICEF Baby friendly Initiative has awarded the university a certificate of commitment for its dedication when training students on the midwifery and health course. The course teaches students to aid and advise women who are breastfeeding.

Head of the graduate nursing and midwifery programme at the university, Sue Faulds said: “many women give up breastfeeding before they want to because of difficulties which could have been prevented if skilled help had been on hand.”

She then later said: “By ensuring our students are fully trained in how to help a mother breastfeed her child, more women will be able to breastfeed their babies for longer.”
