Christmas Arrives in Winchester

On Thursday 24th November, friends and families of all ages came together as a community to take part in the magical celebration at Winchester Cathedral.

The ice-rink and the delightfully authentic Christmas market were opened by the traditional Lantern Procession, a parade that goes through the town centre and finished at the Cathedral. The vibrant and whatcky lanterns illuminating the dark sky even included a Dalek and an Angry Bird. The ceremony continued with a carol service from a choir and a great firework display to follow.

If you had missed the ceremony, don’t panic! The ice-rink is here until the 31st December and the market until the 21st (so don’t leave the Christmas shopping too late!). The market is perfect for a family day out if you have any relatives popping down to Winchester, and the stalls sell unique, hand-crafted gifts and there are some tasty food stalls too. The Contempary Crafts stalls are also worth a look!

So now it is official, Christmas has come to Winchester so put on a coat and bring your loved ones to the Cathedral for mulled wine, crepes and a lot of festive fun!

Plenty of home-made gifts to choose from
