Here’s everything you need to know about the Sport Development Zone.

Sports Development

In the Sport Development Zone there are three roles:

1. VP Sports Development

2. Athletic Union Officer

3. Sports Participation Officer

 

1. VP Sport Development

The Vice President of Sport Development works with everything sporting at SUSU and represents students on all sport concerns. This sabbatical position is also responsible for supporting the Athletics Union and its promotion, as well as assisting the AU Officer and Sports Participation Officer in their respective roles.

The job also includes developing every level of sports participation at the university; from intramural and working with BUCS leagues to facilitating elite athletes here at Southampton.

How has this position changed, if at all?

The role of VP Sports Development has remained the same this year as it was previously.

Dean Jones, A.K.A Dean Giant.

Who is running for the position this year?

Evan Whyte, Samuel Crabb, Kate Williams, Alex Mortlock.

2. Athletic Union Officer

The AU Officer exists to aid the VP Sports Development in the running of the Athletic Union. They focus on AU development, as well as ensuring opportunities and provisions for students to take part in sport.

How has this position changed, if at all?

No change.

Who held this position from 2012/2013?

Saranna Harris.

Who is running for the position this year?

None.

3. Sports Participation Officer

Essentially, the Sport Participation Officer is there to ensure the Union is doing everything it can to increase student participation in AU and non-AU sports. They attempt to address the underlying issues affecting sport and recreational activities university wide. They also act as a support for unrepresented groups in the AU.

How has this position changed, if at all?

This was previously the Sport and Health Officer role, which was was dissolved into the Well-being role within the Welfare zone and this role in order to drive more focus on increasing participation at the university.

Heather Undrell.

Who is running for the position this year?

Jack Kanani and Adam Proudley.
