92-Year-Old Robbed On Shaftesbury Avenue

An elderly man was robbed of £500 by two men after he withdrew money from the Portswood Road branch of Barclays Bank.

Police are looking for two men in their late teens or early twenties, one white and one black, who are suspected of following the 92-year-old from the bank after he made his withdrawal.

The two men are believed to have been in or near the bank between 2:30 and 3pm on Tuesday August 6th. They followed the man to Sainsburys, where he made a brief stop, and then to a car park on Shaftesbury Avenue, where he was attacked, pushed to the ground and robbed.

The victim required surgery for a serious hand injury at Southampton General, but is otherwise ok. Since the attack was in daylight, the police are appealing to witnesses to come forward. If you have any information, contact DC Andy Lucas on 101 at Bitterne CID.
