Assault On Above Bar Street Leaves Victim With Fractured Skull

Police are seeking any witnesses to an attack on a Southampton man that left him with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

The victim is currently in an induced coma in Southampton General, where he is said to be in a stable but serious condition.

On Tuesday August 27th, around 7:30pm, the 38-year-old man was on the corner of Above Bar Street and New Road with a group of 2 other men and 2 women. A man and woman approached the group, and the man punched the victim in the back of the head, causing him to fall to the ground. His head hit the pavement in the fall, and the attacker walked away down New Road in the direction of the Civic Centre.

Just before 1am on Wednesday, a 42-year-old Southampton woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, but was bailed pending further enquiries.
