International Student Targeted in Mobile Phone Robbery

A 19 year old woman from Singapore was robbed of her Apple iPhone 5, just hours after she arrived in England to begin her studies at the university.

On Tuesday 27th August at 3pm, the student was walking along Commercial Road towards the station, from the city centre when a man approached her from behind. He then proceeded to snatch the iPhone out of her hand, before pushing her to the ground and running up an alleyway next to the Vestry pub towards Polygon.

The robber is described as a black man in his early twenties, slim and about 6ft tall.  He wore faded grey jeans, a light blue/grey t-shirt, a grey beanie and trainers. The woman reportedly asked two males, walking opposite, to chase the offender after the attack but she was ignored.

Police are appealing for witness, and are particularly keen to hear from the two men who the woman asked to assist.

Police Staff Investigator Neil Anderson:

“These men could have important information about the robber, so we really need them to contact us”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PSI Anderson at Shirley CID on 101.
