City’s First Half Marathon Runs Through University Campus

In the city’s biggest running event, 20,000 people are expected to participate in Southampton’s first half marathon, which is scheduled for April 26th 2015.

The 13.2 mile route will go through a number of well known sights of the city, including Bargate, Southampton Common, St Mary’s Stadium and our very own university campus.

The race begins at Hoglands park, moving north to Southampton Common and continues east towards Bitterned before heading to the Itchen Bridge. The race ends in the heart of the city centre at Guildhall Square.

A shorter 10km race will also take place, beginning and ending in the same locations as the half marathon.

The event has been organised by Marafun, who want to support the city in promoting Southampton and boosting its tourism.

Craig Lintott, Southampton City Council events manager, states the benefits of the city’s biggest running event:

This will give the city a huge economic boost. We are supporting Marafun in their plans and will do all we can to ensure it is successful.
