Southampton Alumnus Anjem Choudhary Charged over Support for ISIS


Radical preacher and Southampton alumnus Anjem Choudhary has been charged with inviting support for Islamic State (ISIS) militants.

Choudhary, along with one other defendant, is accused of “inviting support” for ISIS between the 29th June 2014 and 6th March this year, and have been charged under Section 12 of the 2000 Terrorism Act.

Choudhary – who studied medicine and then law at the university in the late-1980’s – and Mohammed Rahman are alleged to have invited support for ISIS in lectures which were subsequently posted online.

The defendants are due to appear at Westminster Magistrate’s Court at 14:00 (05/08/2015).
