A former Southampton bookshop on Portswood Road is being transformed into a micropub.
The Peter Rhodes bookshop, located near Mango and La Boronia Restaurants (as well as Champagne Charlie’s) has submitted a plan to become a micro pub called ‘Bookhouse Alehouse’. It aims to be ‘community focused’ with a capacity of around 120 people.
It’s location between the Gordon Arms and The Hobbit will place it on the route of many Portswood bar crawls.
A design statement for the pub said
The aim is to provide a community focused alehouse. Space will be available for local groups to meet, promote local events and hold occasional acoustic or spoken word events promoting local artists and poets (no amplified music).
The plan for the Bookhouse Alehouse has so far received 23 supporting comments and two objections.
The final decision on planning will be made in December.
