Southampton Students Launch Petition To Return Books To Language Resources Rooms

Languages students at the University of Southampton have launched an online petition calling on the University to return magazines and language learning resources formerly located in the areas and available for student use.

In a post on the Modern Languages Facebook group, Languages Academic President George Hope said that staff and students were not consulted about the decision to remove the resources from the French, Spanish, German and English Language Resources Rooms on the second floor of Avenue Campus, which were refurbished over the easter break.

An online petition has now been launched calling on the University to return the resources to the areas or donate them to charity instead of throwing them away. The petition, which can be signed by any student of the University, claims the resources will be ‘dumped into skips’ and aims to ‘demonstrate to the university the pertinence of the issue to ML students’.

The petition can be viewed here.
