Southampton Student Charged With Manslaughter

Ryan Cooper, a Southampton Law student, has been charged with manslaughter following the death of Gary ‘Jeff’ Stacey.

The 49-year old man sustained a fatal head injury on the Isle of Wight after an attack by Cooper in the early hours of the morning on Valentine’s Day. He was found by a bus driver and later died in hospital.

The student, who lived on Alma Road, was arrested on suspicion of murder and released without charge in relation to causing grievous bodily harm. He has now been charged with manslaughter and has been released on bail. He will appear at the Isle of Wight Combined Court on July 1st.
