Less than 15 minutes until the players come out on court in what promises to be a brilliant rematch of Queen’s tournament a few weeks ago. I still don’t know who to support in it. The statistics are in Murray’s favour having beaten Raonic on six of their nine previous clashes. Then there’s Raonic, the first Canadian to reach a grand slam final. Bring on the tennis!
The Royal Box is filled with celebrities today. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have just taken their seats on Centre Court. Not long until it all starts now
This is Murray’s third Grand Slam Final this year as well as his third Wimbledon Final compared to Milos Raonic who is making his first Grand Slam Final in a few minutes. Will Murray’s experience be the deciding factor in todays game?
The roof is open and theres some sun coming through the clouds. The weather experts have said there is 0% of rain, so hopefully they’re correct and we can have a full match undisturbed by the British weather.
Tim Henman is trying very hard not to laugh on air as the warm up of the players keeps sending tennis balls very near to Leyton Hewitt’s head.
Raonic won the toss and elected to serve first.
Murray wins the first point, 0-15. Still a long way to go.
It will be interesting to see how Murray holds up to Milos Raonic’s server, they’ve been devlivered with a blistering pace of 139mph so far.
Now that is a rally I like seeing. First game goes to Raonic.
Murray goes 30-0 up on his serve, looks like he should be able to get his first service game under his belt.
Raonic approaches the net, something hes already done a few times this match and smashes it for the point.
Murray 1 – 1 Raonic
Two unforced errors by Raonic, one backhand pushed too long and another into the net gives Murray a look into this game, 30-30 on a Raonic serve…
Here’s the first break point of the match for Murray.

Raonic sees off the danger and goes 2 games to 1, still on serve.
Milos Raonic has the fastest serve where 50% of them haven’t been returned. He also has had the most aces of the tournament with 137.
Three games in, Raonic’s tactics seems to be fast paced serves and approaching the net while Murray seems content to sit on the baseline and make Raonic move around the court for the ball.
Centre Court is definitely looking worn today. Good thing the gardeners will have a decent portion of time to sort that out.
Tim Henman comments that Murray’s second serve is his one weakness, Murray looks like hes focusing more on nailing the first serve than take risks going for the aces.
It’s back to two games all with Raonic to serve.
Well that was a quick game. 3-2 to Raonic
Raonic doesn’t give Andy any points during his service game, he definitely isn’t looking like he’s going to give Andy many more break points any time soon.
Murray quick to respond and the games still follow the serve.
Milos is working Andy into the positions he wants, but cant put the points to bed, hes had a couple which hes edged wide now without any real reason to miss.
Two break points for Murray.

41 minutes for the first set, Murray leads 1 set to love.
A rare unforced error for Murray lets Raonic recover slightly on his own service game, 30-30 this game.
Milos digs himself out of danger there with some pinpoint precision with his forehands, defending his serve and takes the opening game of the second set.
The Royal Box is full of celebrities today. Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper, Lily James to name but a few.
As well as a high celebirty turnout, the full political spectrum is also being represented in the Royal Box, with David Cameron, Nicola Sturgen and Sadiq Khan all in attendence. However, politics is taking a back foot this afternoon.
1 game a piece, Murray still leads having taking the opening set.
Murray is once again positioning himself deep for the first serve and above the baseline for the second serve, smart tactics from Murray.
A swing and a miss by Murray, strange to see a professional tennis player completely miss the ball. But he doesn’t let it put him off and he wins the game, tieing the second set up at 2 a piece.
Is it me or are the noises that are coming from Murray and Raonic some of the loudest of the tournament? Just get Sharapova out and we’d have a proper little choir.
Raonic wins a love game on his serve. Murray takes over the serving duties, hes still having trouble on his serve, bouncing the ball, throwing it up, hesitating, then repeating. Its blustery out there but not overly so.
The Sun is definitely causing Murray issues with his serve, having to repeat the motions for his serve.
Things have been going the servers way this second set, 3 games each, no break points yet.
The stats really show what kind of game Murray is playing.
Murray – 4
Raonic – 0
Second deuce of the game, will Murray be able to use this to aim for another break point?
Yes he will, a beautifully placed backhand down the line gives Murray the first break point of the second set.
Raonic once again pulls through and wins his own service game, 4-3, still on serve.
Murray’s forehand catches the net and just makes it over, Raonic returns the favour with a similair shot, unphased, Murray takes the game. 4-4 in this second set.

In other sports on Super Sunday, at a rainy Silverstone we have our first British sucess of the afternoon, heres the podium breakdown:
Cant get much closer with that, Murray challenged a Raonic return, it was in by just 3mm.
147 mph serve by Raonic, but Murray somehow wins the point and with it a chance at a break.
Second break point of the game for Murray, if he can win this he will be serving for the set.
Raonic once again wins his service game after a couple of hard fought points, it feels like something has to give soon be it in game or a tie break.
Thats a superb drop shot by Raonic, hes still got a few tricks in reserve. Raonic is up 40-0 on his own serve, 5-5 in this second set.
Raonic would back himself if it came to a tie break, in the 5 tie breaks Murray and Raonic have competed, Raonic has won 4 of them. Murray to serve to force the tie break.
Its tie break time here in the second set!
Murray wins the mini-break, and then converts with his first serve. 2-0 Murray in the tie break.
Another mini-break with a fantastic passing winner puts Murray up 4-1.
A powerful serve there, Murrays rewarded with 4 set points.
Set point here.
Second set to Murray. Murray is only one set away from his second Wimbledon victory.
Murray leads the game 2 sets to love
6 – 4
7 – 6 (7-3)
Hes now just one set away from repeating his glorious victory back in 2013.
Coming up to the two hour mark, can Murray make it a quick finish here in this third set?
Its a good start by Murray, hes up 1-0. Raonic to serve.
1-1 here in the 3rd set. Raonic holds his serve. Back to Murray
A bit of emotion is working its way to the surface as Raonic lets out a roar after losing a point.
Some great rallies coming in this game, both are pulling out some difficult shots to execute. Raonic is up 40-30 on his serve.
A clever shot from Raonic leads him to hold his serve. Bit early to call another tie break in the wings?
Maybe not, this is Raonic’s best look at breaking, hes up 30-0 on Murray’s serve.
The camera man is a big fan of the men wearing hats that have Andy spelt out in tennis balls on them.
Will Raonic make the most of this break point opportunity?
A clinical return gives Raonic two break points. Murray defends the first one sucessfully.
Two break points and a deuce later, advantage Murray.
Murray takes the game, that game was crucial. Raonic will surely wish he could get a few more break like that, but convert on them.
A powerful ace, a powerful statment of intent from Murray. He takes the games, 4-3, still on serve.
Raonic puts another easy shot into the net, its just been when of those days for Raonic.
And another, is fatigue setting in here?
68 net approaches for Raonic, its wining him quite a few points but one cant help but think 2 sets down, it might be worth trying something else.
Andy ends the game with a brutal ace. A second tie break is on the horizon here as Murray leads 5 games to 4, still on serve.
Raonic is now serving to stay in the championship, can he perform under pressure. This surely is the biggest moment of the young man’s career so far.
A love game with an ace in there as well, an impressive performance there from Raonic.
Murray replies with a love game himself with a second serve right into the body of Raonic which seemed to put him off. Raonic is once again serving to stay in the championships.
Is this the last game of the championship or will we have another tie break?
Impressive stuff here, a second serve ace by Raonic, he certainly is displaying his talent on centre court today.
Once again, its tie break time! And this time, Murray could finish it.
Its all smiles from Kim as Murray goes 3-0 up in the tie break. He’s 4 points away from a second Wimbledon title!
Another clinical forehand, 5-0 Murray in this tie break for the championship.
Here we go, Championship point
5 championship points for Andy Murray, 6-1 this tie break, Murray to serve.
The crowds getting a little bit rowdy here, and rightfully so. 6-2 Murray now.
He has done it!
Andy Murray, Wimbledon Champion once again!
Congratulations to Andy Murray on his second Wimbledon win. Straight sets as well. He’s overcome with emotions as he takes in the fact he’s won again.
A three set victory in the Wimbledon Finals. You cant really ask for anything more.
6 – 4
7 – 6 (7-3)
7 – 6 (7-2)
You can see it means a lot to him, as the tears come out.
A great performance from Raonic, he should have nothing but pride
following his first Grand Slam final with a victory over the most
sucessfull mens tennis player of all time, Roger Federer.
“This ones going to sting, I’m going to make sure I do everything I can to make it back here” –
Raonic shouldn’t be disheartened by this loss, he’s played brilliantly and has many more years and many more chances to get a Grand Slam win. Rome wasn’t made in a day and all that.
Nothing but respect between these two athletes who gave us this great spectacle here on centre court. Murray also manages to get the added bonus of a few laughs from the crowd as he makes his winners speech.
I’m sure these two will be friends for years. What a great Sunday of sports this is shaping up to be.
“It’s tough playing at Wimbledon but I certainly wouldn’t want to be Prime Minister” He even has time to have a little dig at Dave there.
Heather Watson is next to take to center court as she goes for the mixed doubles title and then in the evening we have the conclusion of Euro 2016.
Right, back again, this time it’s the turn of France and Portugal playing the final of the Euro 2016 tournament in Paris, the closing ceremony has finished and the players are coming out on the pitch.
So my first thought is “Wow, Ronaldo has long eyelashes”. I may not be the right person to live blog about football but will see how it goes.
I’d be really impressed if anyone that had been at the Wimbledon final or the British Grand Prix were in Paris tonight.
Things are under way in Paris, can France make it 3 European wins out of 3 finals?
4″ Nani gets an early shot in and misses his chance to have an early goal.
6″ Griesman takes a shot on goal and misses.
7′ Griesman certainly has had quite a few touches off the ball early on. Ronaldo is down receiving medical attention.
7′ A crunching tackle brings Ronaldo to the ground. He’s clutching his knee so first aiders are fast on the scene
9′ Ronaldo is back on the pitch and play continues.
“I think hes genuinely hurt” The commentators are clearly a little skeptical of Ronaldo’s injury.
9′ Griesman has another shot and requires a great save from goalie.
10′ Another great save from the Portugese goalie
11′ Things are still all equal on the scoreboard at 0-0 but France are definitely on the front foot at the moment.
13′ Portugal are just looking for some time on the ball here not looking all too dangerous yet. Meanwhile the French national anthem is being sung, probably not the last time we’ll hear that tonight.
16′ Sad times for Portugal as Ronaldo is having to come off the pitch. Things are not looking good for him.
17′ Thats a massive game changer here, devastating blow to Portugal’s bid to win and such a personal blow for Ronaldo himself.
20′ Hes back on to try once again, Portuguese fans will be relieved to see number 7 back on the pitch. Can he play a full 90+ minutes though?
21′ All eyes are on Ronaldo to see how well he can cope. He does seem to be limping quite a bit.
22′ Sissoko wins a corner with a shot from outside the box, however corner is easily gathered by Patricio.
23′ The call has been made. Ronaldo is coming off. He is done.
Standing ovation as Ronaldo exits, his night is most certainly over, sad to see. Nani will take over the captaincy.
27′ Portugal are going to be tough to break the defence of tonight, especially now they’ve lost their main striker.
29′ Sissoko is showing his speed and strength as he makes another run and wins a corner. Hes done that a few times tonight already.
32′ No serious threats to either goal so far, both defenses looking strong.
33′ Yet another shot for France requiring yet another save
33′ Payet to Sissoko, Sissoko has a pot a goal that Patricio has to dive for, first real chance of the game.
34′ Cedric, one of the Portuguese Southampton players, picks up a yellow card for his tackle on Payet.
36′ I can imagine the shots on goal stat is looking pretty good in favour of France so far this evening, still no goals though…
36′ The portugese fans may be less in number than the french tonight, but you wouldn’t be able to tell from the noises in the stadium.
38′ Its taken 38 minutes for Portugal to win their first corner, but it comes to nothing as a header sails over the crossbar.
40′ A through pass to Payet from Griezmann come to nothing as the ball head back towards the other end of the pitch.
41′ Greizmann, Sissoko, Payet. All names that are coming up a lot so far.
41′ Some good quality balls have been put in from both sides so far. Nearing the half time mark.
42′ We’re coming towards the end of the first half here, and if man of the half was a thing, I would definitely hand it to Sissoko who seems to be the only one looking dangerous for either side so far.
42′ New ball needed on the pitch as the players have managed to pop one. At £100 each, surely that shouldn’t be happening at this level of the tournament?
45′ The now renowned Icelandic chant rolls around the stadium, the France really have adopted it as their own now.
45′ Clash of heads between Evra and Quaresmo means we may get more than the two minutes of extra time.
45+1′ 0-0 as we enter the first of two extra minutes.
45+1′ Is it just me or are there a lot of moths in the stadium tonight? There’s been one on Ronaldo’s eye, one of Sissoko’s head… where will they strike next?
Half Time: France 0 – 0 Portugal
Gary Lineker makes the remark we are all thinking – “Half time, no goals, no Ronaldo.”
Portugal will likely be happy with that scoreline after a slow start and losing their main playmaker.
The trial of Payet looks like it’s already starting on social media, that tackle is going to be the talking point for many football fans in the coming days.
Watching over the eight contenders for goal of the tournament, I know which one I would pick.
Watch the eight contenders for goal here, http://bit.ly/29wmF5P
With Ronaldo injured, looks like Griezmann should be able to win the top goal scorer at the tournment barring a miracle performance from someone else.
45′ And we’re under way, the final half of Euro 2016!
46′ Portugal’s captain Nani is on the ground complaining of injury. Not another one…
47′ A rash challenge by Sissoko and Pepe acts the victim to win Portugal a free kick.
49′ A great tackle from Pepe prevents France from having a shot at goal.
51′ Both teams are probing the others defenses but not much forthcoming yet, however France has just won a corner.
53′ Pogba takes a long range strike which goes well over the Portuguese goal.
55′ A Portuguese cross is well dealt with by Umititi, denying Nani a chance to put Portugal 1-0.
57′ Still goalless here in Paris, some people will already be thinking about penalties.
57′ Payet is off for Coman, the first sub of the night.
58′ Coman immediately sets up Griezmann for a chance that he puts right at the goalie, still the pace seems to be picking up now.
60′ If its one thing Portugal do well, it’s not winning a game in regular time.
62′ Another yellow card for Portugal. This time for Mario.
Whilst no goals are occurring on the pitch, thought I’d chip in with some facts and statistics about the game.
64′ The moths get a close up on the BBC’s coverage while the French national anthem once again is sung.
65′ When solid defense meets solid defense, the result is a 0-0 scoreline 65 minutes in.
Total pairs of yellow shoes on pitch = 7
65′ Having said that, a beautiful devlierly sets Griezmann up for the chance of the match, he heads it over.
Number of confirmed moth sightings = 12
68′ Mario has to be careful, hes already on a yellow and the kind of barge he jsut dolled out isn’t going to help his cause much.
69′ Griezmann tries to create for France but Cedric clears. Throw in for Portugal
71′ A French corner misses everyone and is cleared, still France have had all the chances this half.
74′ The French are putting plenty of balls into the box, they just need to get the numbers in there also.
74′ Giroud has a good chance but the Portuguese goalie makes good and its cleared, now Portugal are on the counter.
76′ Griezmann was eyeing up his 7th of the tourment as a ball approached him. However Giroud forgot what side he was on for a second and blocked the pass…
77′ Giroud comes off and is replaced by Gignac.
77′ Portugal also make a substitution, Eder comes on replacing Renato Sanches
80′ Nani really challenges the French goal and then Portugal almost snap up the opener on the rebound. Lloris makes two great saves to keep it equal.
80′ First sign of Portugal doing anything other than defense tonight, maybe the last 10 minutes will pick up.
83′ 53% possesion for France, 47% for Portugal, pretty balenced there, like the scorebaord, 0-0.
83′ Sissoko blasts one from a long way out, forcing the goalkeeper to make a diving safe.
86′ Looks like we are going to be heading into extra time unless there is some miracle goal by either side at this point.
86′ Sissoko almost puts a ball through to Griezmann, he would have been alone with Patricio if it had connected with him.
88′ I don’t think I’d be best pleased if Quaresma had me in a headlock like that and tried to pawn it off as friendly
90′ They have three minutes to try and settle things in regular time.
90+1′ Gignac makes a great turn to evade his defender and has the goalie beat! He hits the post, he could have been crowned a victor but it wasn’t to be.
90+3′ Thats the final whistle for regular time, this is the first Euro final to finish goalless.
Extra time it is. James is gonna be the one taking you through the rest of the final. It should prove to be an interesting outcome.
Yep, I’ll be here until the bitter end.
As the start of extra time gets underway, one can only wonder if we would be here if Ronaldo hadn’t gone off in the first half.
ET 01′ Portugal know the drill by now, this is their third extra time period of the tournement.
ET 02′ Conman’s been in the thick of things since hes come on, will he be able to break the deadlock?
ET 04′ Free kick Portugal, in the danger area for France.
ET 04′ Its a great ball into the box, but the Portuguese attack is offside and the header goes wide. France are let off there.
ET 06′ One can only think the French crowd could try and fire their team up a little more.
ET 07′ Conman was making good progress straight down the field and is cynically tackled by Carvalho who is rewarded with a yellow for that attempt.
ET 09′ It’s all rather loose from both teams here now. Not team can find an edge.
ET 10′ Another French corner comes to nothing but Griezmann recovers and gives France another chance, again they can’t get a shot on net.
ET 10′ France have won yet another corner, it goes well over everyone in the box, leaving them looking skyward.
ET 12′ Its Portugal’s turn for a corner now, best chance of extra time for them.
ET 12′ Pepe takes this opportunity to put his defender on the ground, a little argy bargy there.
ET 13′ The cross leads to a header that goes straight at the goalie but he serves up a juicey rebound which Portugal can’t quite captalise on and France just about clear.
105′ Half Time of Extra Time: France 0 – 0 Portugal
You can count the realistic chances on one hand, I can’t really see this going to anything but penalties.
ET 15′ More theatrics from Portugal wins them a free kick.
ET 16′ Koscielny is yellow carded for a handball comitted by the Portuguese Eder just outside the French box. Big mistake by the ref there.
ET 17′ Guerreiro takes the kick and strikes the cross bar, he had Lloris beat and was just inches away.
ET’ 18 Eder takes a long range shot and he puts it in the left hand corner! GOAL! Portugal go 1-0 up!
ET 19′ French heads are already dipping, they have 10 minutes to force penalties now. Tears from Ronaldo from the bench.
ET 20′ The crowd has really got energised now, Portuguese fans cheering their team home, French fans urging their team for a miracle.
ET 22′ Corner for France, it’s feeling desperate now, once again the chance is wasted.
ET 23′ Portugal on the counter look dangerous but it’s just too long for Nani to have a chance to really bury French hopes.
ET 24′ French numbers are filling the box but they just cant connect with any of them. Now the frustation comes out, Pogba picks up a yellow.
ET 25′ Attack after attack from French is repelled by the men in red, 5 minutes until they claim their first Euro win.
ET 27′ Looks like critics of Portugal wont be able to say they depend on Ronaldo to win.
ET 27′ Guerreiro is carried off the pitch with some form of injury, maybe cramp.
ET 28′ Ronaldo is having none of that and physically forces Guerreiro back onto the pitch, only two minutes left now…
Et 29′ Mario almost gets a chance to put Portugal up 2-0 but manages to win a corner. At anything it will burn the clock down.
ET 30′ Portugal are on the verge of victory now, the ref gifts the French 2 minutes to salvage a chance to win in penalties.
ET 30+1′ The French cant get anywhere near the Portuguese goal now.
ET 30+2′ Thats the final whistle, Eder’s goal has won Portugal their first European championship. Portugal win 1-0!
Tears flow from both sides, the contrast of winners and losers are clear here as the Portuguese celebrations begin while the French can only wonder what if…
1 regular time win in 7 is enough to win the Euros, what a strange tournament this has been.
Griezmann claims the golden boot of the tournament with 6 goals, not that that is going to much of a consolation after tonights result.
And that wraps up our coverage of our Super Sunday of Sport! It certainly was a great day with world class athletes performing across a range of sports, I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did. James Moseley, signing off.
