Ryan Williams, 54, has been convicted by Swindon Crown Court of sexually assaulting one young boy and young girl in the 1990s.
The abuse was took place whilst the Southampton resident lived in Grange Park and Moredon and babysat for the male and female victims. Williams, formerly known as John Hopkins, pleaded not guilty to all charges and claimed the allegations made him ‘sick to his stomach’.
A case was brought against him by the male victim in 1995 which collapsed due to insufficient evidence. Legal proceedings were, however, restarted when a girl came forward in 2014 claiming Williams molested her when she was an 11 year old.
As well as pleading not guilty to the jury of two counts of rape, four counts of indecent assault and two counts of serious sexual assault, the defendant was previously convicted for having sex with a 16 year old in 1987.
Williams was found guilty of all counts except one count of serious sexual assault. His Honour Judge Tim Mousley QC drew attention to the vulnerable nature of the victims and the ‘extreme effects’ of the abuse which ‘virtually destroyed’ their ‘young adult life up to their mid 30s’.
