The University of Southampton has been ranked 104th in the Best Global Universities for 2017 according to new rankings published by US News and World Report.
The rank represents a climb of six places from last year, when Southampton was ranked joint 110th overall.
Now in their third year of publication, the rankings place Southampton 36th among universities in Europe and 10th among UK institutions. Harvard University was ranked the top university overall and Oxford university was top in both the UK and Europe as a whole.
Southampton also places in the top 100 for a number of subject rankings, including Computer Science, Engineering, Geosciences, Immunology, Physics, Public Health and Space Science.
The overall rankings, which focus on academic research and reputation, judge the best 1,000 instutions across 65 different countries. The results are based on 12 different indicators, which judge ‘global research reputation’ through publications, books, conferences, citation impact, and international collaboration.
