Junk nightclub has been included in the DJ Mag’s shortlist for the Best of British Awards 2016 and has been nominated for the best small club award.
Junk will compete for its place as best small club with other venues in cities including London, Manchester and Sheffield. Previously, the club has been nominated twice and won in 2013. The voting closed on Monday so we will have to wait and see if Junk will reclaim its title.
The nomination comes as welcome news after a tough year for the venue. Following a number of violent incidents nearby in the Bedford Place area, including stabbings and drug offences, the club faced closure in early 2016 and was forced to change it’s closing time from 4am to 2am.
However, the court has since ruled the incidents were not the fault of the venue and the club has been allowed to revert to its original opening times.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Junk’s director, Luca Pilato, has said: “After such a challenging year we are delighted to be shortlisted once again.”
Let’s hope the nomination will lead to more good news for the club.
