Men’s Rugby 3s Run Rampant Over Local Rivals Portsmouth

SURFC 3rd Team made the best possible start to the competitive season with a 100-10 thrashing of local rivals Portsmouth. A total of 18 tries were scored with 12 different try scorers. Southampton started strongly right from the whistle, punishing Portsmouth for a lack of width in defence creating three tries and taking an early lead in the opening 10 minutes. The pack provided the strong platform for the backs to attack taking a 34-5 lead at half time.

In the second half, the forwards dominance around the breakdown was really starting to show and the backs were able to run riot and the floodgates opened. Southampton scored 12 more tries managing to reach the 100 point mark just before full time. It was a superb team performance with every member of the squad playing their part. The 3’s are looking to carry this form into next week’s match when they face Solent in what should be a tough match.
