Wessex Wednesday’s – Week 7


Despite missing out on any substantial snowfall, Southampton hasn’t escaped the frost, with frozen pitches seeing a number of matches postponed, including the Men’s first and second team rugby fixtures.

The undefeated Women’s rugby team took on Newport 1st team and put on quite a show to remain top of the league. The game was called off early after an injury to a Newport player, but Wessex nevertheless won by an impressive margin of 60 – 0.

Also among those to brave the icy winds, the Men’s Football 1’s fell to a 3-2 loss against Bath 2’s. The Men’s hockey 1st’s lost to Bath 2nd team 3 – 2, whilst the Women’s hockey 1st’s beat Bournemouth away 6 – 1.

On the courts, the Women’s tennis team beat Gloucestershire 1st team, whilst the Men’s tennis team lost to UWE 1st team and the Men’s 2nd team defeated local rivals Solent 2 -1.

In Badminton, the Women’s 1st team beat Cardiff 1st’s 2-1, whilst the Men’s 1st team drew with Bristol 4 – 4 and the Men’s 2’s beat UWE 2 -1.

In the Jubilee centre, the Women’s Basketball team beat Bristol 1st team by 76 points to 56, whilst the Netball 1st team faced their 2nd team in the Western 2A league, with the 1’s taking the points in a 57 – 21 win.
