Southampton Stags Beat Portsmouth in Varsity Match

The Southampton Stags, the university American football team, beat Portsmouth today in their varsity match for the 2014 competition.

In what was an excellent start to their season, the Stags beat the Portsmouth team 7-0. The touchdown was caught by second year student Ed Tavares, catching a pass from quarterback Tommaso Bendoni.

Stags VP Martin Wyard said:

“It was a hard fought game with the defence of both teams playing at a standard more common mid-season, meaning the one touchdown was enough to get the win. Thomas Corfield and Sam Morgan gave standout performances.”

This result is added to the varsity total, which Southampton are currently winning 4-0.
