Top Universities Set To Lower Offers to Fill Places

Top UK universities are set to lower the offers made to incoming students in order to fill places.

Russell Group institutions in the UK are preparing to lower their offers to 2020-2021 intake university students out of fear of not attracting enough students from the UK and further afield.

Nick Hillman, Director of the Higher Education Policy Institute, said:

Universities want to fill their places…There is a smaller number of 18-year-olds this year so it was always going to be a buyers’ market..If I were a young person this year getting my A-level results and I didn’t quite get what I needed for a top university, I would be on the phone to them immediately to say ‘Will you give me a place anyway?’ and they probably will.

This comes after universities were warned against giving out unconditional offers during the pandemic.
